Understanding the Reporting Process

Should you report? Answer the following questions to get started.

If something doesn’t feel right, it’s always okay to speak up. We are here to listen, support, and guide you through the process. Reporting is a safe and encouraged first step, and you won’t face any penalties for speaking up — even if your concern doesn’t lead to formal action.

What happens when you submit a report?

When you submit a report, you will receive a case number and secure code so you can check for updates. Your report will be carefully reviewed and routed to the appropriate office to determine next steps. This might include gathering more information, speaking with those involved, or taking formal action. While anonymous reporting is available and respected, please note that it may limit our ability to fully follow up on certain concerns.

Is this an emergency, or do you feel that you or someone else is in immediate danger?
Call 911.
Does your concern involve sexual misconduct or discrimination (such as harassment, bias, or unequal treatment)?
Please visit sexualmisconduct.umich.edu to report and learn more.
Are you affiliated with Michigan Medicine or the U-M medical system?
Not sure where your concern fits, or whether it violates a specific policy?

That’s okay. If you have a concern, you should report it — even if you're unsure which policy it relates to. We will review the information and route it to the appropriate office.

If you're not ready to report but have questions, you can still reach out to start a conversation.
