Because of the complex nature of the university’s work in a wide range of areas, there are many compliance requirements that intersect with individual activities and roles in different ways. Each topic section listed below gives a brief overview of the U-M compliance resources available in that area and contact information for experts who can help you.

Division of Public Safety & Security (DPSS)

The Division of Public Safety and Security conducts all police and security operations on the University of Michigan Ann Arbor campus and is on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. They also provide comprehensive services and training to help the U-M community work and live in a safer and more secure campus environment.

Environment, Health, & Safety

The Environment, Health & Safety Department promotes health, safety and environmental compliance within the U-M campus community by providing resources, guidelines and training to maintain a healthy workplace and to protect the environment.

Research Services

Research Services at the North Campus Research Complex provides a variety of services to help researchers safely following all protocols and guidelines.

 

U-M Research and Academic Safety Committee and Research Safety First

The Research Safety First Initiative is a partnership between the University of Michigan, Environment, Health and Safety and the U-M Research and Academic Safety Committee. The initiative is designed to support U-M researchers by reducing burden while also increasing adherence to research safety requirements, based on feedback from laboratory directors, unit safety committees and others. RASC’s overall mission is to enhance the culture of research and academic safety via a continuous improvement model that is collaborative and ongoing.
