Get Connected: Specialized Reporting

Because of the complex nature of the university’s work in a wide range of areas, there are many compliance requirements that intersect with individual activities and roles in different ways. Each topic section listed below gives a brief overview of the U-M compliance resources available in that area and contact information for experts who can help you.

Specific concerns can be addressed by contacting by following resources:

Athletics compliance – contact the Compliance Services Office within the Athletics Department at (734) 615-7341. For UM-Dearborn, call the Athletics Office on (313) 593-5070.

Care and use of laboratory animals at U-M – call the Animal Concern Hotline at (734) 763-8028 or submit a report online (which may be anonymous).

Computing resource abuse or breaches of IT policy – contact the University’s IT User Advocate.

Discrimination or harassment – call the Equity, Civil Rights and Title IX Office at (734) 763-0235. For UM-Flint, call (810) 237–6517. For UM-Dearborn, call (313) 436-9194.

Environment, health or safety concerns – call Environment, Health and Safety on (734) 647-1143, unless the concern relates to an emergency and requires immediate attention, in which case call 911. For UM-Flint, call the Environment, Health and Safety Department on (810) 766-6763. For UM-Dearborn, call the Department of Environmental Health, Safety and Emergency Management on (313) 593-4914.

Faculty Threats and Harassment Contact facultysupport@umich.edu. This email is monitored by the Provost’s Office and Academic Human Resources to support faculty and campus leaders once a threat or a harassing event has occurred. The team will review and generally respond to inquiries within 2 business days, with suggestions for next steps, and referrals to other campus offices, as appropriate.

Human subjects research contact the Institutional Review Board with jurisdiction over the relevant research protocol.

IT security breaches – follow the process set out by Information Technology Services.

Patient care, clinical services or other Michigan Medicine issues – contact the UMHS Compliance Office. If you are outside the U-M network, you may contact them via email or call (734) 615-4400.

Sexual misconduct – The Sexual Misconduct Reporting & Resources site provides full details about the reporting process and options.

Student concerns – you can contact the Office of the Ombuds in Ann Arbor or the UM-Dearborn Ombuds Services or UM-Flint Office of the Ombuds to talk about your concerns.

Suspected copyright infringement on a U-M website – contact the University’s Digital Millennium Copyright Act agent.

Other compliance concerns 

Contact the U-M Compliance Hotline (which allows you to report an issue anonymously if you wish) by calling 1-866-990-0111 or submitting an online report.
